BC Student Margaret Felice Wins Opera Prize

On the weekend of November 6 & 7, Margaret Felice, a student in the School of Theology and Ministry ’12 and a 2002 graduate from the school Arts and Sciences, won first prize in Just Love to Sing! Opera Competition (formerly New Hampshire Opera Idol).

Competing against nearly 60 singers from up and down the East Coast, Margaret Felice and 11 other entrants advanced to to the finals concert held at Concord City Auditorium on the afternoon on November 7th. Felice sang “Steal Me Sweet Thief” from Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief and was awarded first prize.

The competition is sponsored by New Hampshire opera company Just Love to Sing!, and the cash prize for first place was provided by WKXL 1450 out of Concord New Hampshire.

Upcoming appearances include Felice as soprano soloist with Assabet Valley Mastersingers’ Messiah Sing in December 2010.

Originally from greater Hartford, Margaret Felice holds degrees from Boston College and The Boston Conservatory. Of her recent appearance in Carmen, The Boston Musical Intelligencer wrote, “Margaret Felice, with her drop-dead beautiful voice, was ideal as Micaëla.” Felice is currently serving as Boston Opera Collaborative‘s Public Relations Chair and works as a religion teacher and director of liturgical music at a Catholic high school.
